Action Alert
Department of Peace Opposed in Berkeley Op-Ed
An Op-Ed in the Berkeley Daily Planet opposing the DOP was written by
Jonathan Wornick. After I introduced the resolution to the Berkeley Peace and
Justice Commission, a Commission I served on for three years, Jonathan become its
chief opponent. He was the lone P&J commissioner opposed to the resolution. and
said at the May meeting, "We have a Department of Peace. It's called the
State Department." He later added that the Commission should stop this initiative
'hear and now."'
When the Commission failed to support it because it didn't get enough votes
because of absent members, we took it directly to the City Council where it
passed. The Commission was criticized by some city council members for failing
to support it.

You can also write or call Berkeley City Councilmembers, especially to
Councilmember Wozniak who voted against our DOP Resolution and appointed Jonathan
Wornick to the P&J Commission
